Entitled resident hogs coveted parking space and refuses to move, HOA intervenes and kicks him out for a full year: 'All this just because he didn't want to move his car for one day'

It sounds groundbreaking and unheard of but for once, an HOA did the right thing!

We have covered countless infuriating tales of HOA sagas, some of which involve residents having no choice but to oblige with ridiculous policies. In contrast, others have centered on rare instances of triumph over entitled community board members who seemingly have nothing better to do than boss their neighbors around. However, here, the roles were reversed. In this case, it was a resident who was very much in the wrong and was therefore despised by other members of the community. 

When the HOA got involved and forbade him from taking up more space than he deserved, other residents in the community probably questioned for the first time in their lives if they actually made the right choice by living in an HOA neighborhood. Of course, that's likely wishful thinking. In a short matter of time, the HOA board probably enforced some lame policy that stirred up more division. In the meantime, however, people could be proud of their board members for temporarily representing their wishes.

    "Don't want to move your car for one day? Lose your convenient parking spot for a year."

    This happened on last 26th January and today the malicious compliance was done not by me but the committee of the society where I live. This drama conveniently happened in front of my window.

  • In this neighborhood, there were two coveted parking spaces near the community flagpole. Those spaces were consolidated into one as the flagpole needed to be used to prepare for an annual holiday. The residents in the community largely agreed that the person who deserved that one parking space was a kind elderly member of the neighborhood. However, an entitled resident who typically took up one of those spaces refused to give his spot up despite the fact that he could easily park by his own house. When the HOA decided to rule on the matter, well, let's just say the odds were not in this guy's favor…

    In my city the residential complexes are managed by housing societies much like the HOA system in the USA, just not as horrible. Each society has their own committee to manage day to day affairs.

    Also, as my society has much more parking spaces then it has cars, it has no designated parking spots allotted to the residents. Anyone can park their vehicle wherever they want but it must be a marked parking spot. People mostly park

    flagpole of our society where the flag hoisting ceremony will be held is just in front of main gate of society. There are two parking spaces just under the flag pole. All other parkings are further away from main gate and you have to walk some distance to reach there from the main gate.

    As expected only two people applied for that parking spot- the elderly person and the annoying guy. And today the committee unanimously decided that the elderly person is in much more need of that convenient parking spot because of his age and that spot has been allotted to him for one year.

    Now the annoying guy has to park his car far from his front door for at least 1 year (pretty sure that he is not going to get the spot next year too). He is not going to like. this more in the coming rainy season. As we live in Mumbai which is notorious for its horrible monsoon rains each year. All this just because he didn't want to move his car for one day.

    Last-Woodpecker Reminds me a story that happen here in Brazil where people where building a side walk and ask some guy to remove. his car. He denied and went to work, only to find his car concreted to the floor up until the middle of its wheels.
